This page sets out the limits of what the content on Tennis Arcade Games is, and is not. It exists because some of the subject matter here — reaction time, timing, practice, tennis — sits close to areas where people reasonably expect professional expertise, and we do not have it.

What this site is
Tennis Arcade Games publishes original browser games and writing about tennis video games — their mechanics, their design, their history, and how to get better at playing them.
All of it is written by one person, Alex Carter, who is a games writer with eight years covering sports and browser gaming. That is the entirety of the expertise on offer here, and it is real expertise about a narrow subject.
This is not tennis coaching
The most important thing on this page.
Nothing published here is tennis coaching advice. Alex is not a tennis coach, holds no coaching qualification, has no playing credentials, and is not affiliated with any tennis club, federation or governing body. Where an article mentions the real sport, it is for context — explaining where a scoring convention came from, or why a game's designer made a particular abstraction.
Arcade tennis and tennis share a name and very little else. One is a button-press timing skill performed while sitting down. The other is a whole-body motor skill performed under physical load. Advice that improves the first has no reason to improve the second, and we will not suggest otherwise.
If you want to get better at tennis, work with a qualified coach.
This is not health, fitness or medical advice
Several articles here discuss reaction time, timing, practice structure and fatigue. None of it is health, medical, physiotherapy or sports-science advice, and it should not be treated as such.
In particular:
- We make no claim that playing these games provides any cognitive, physical or health benefit.
- We do not claim that reaction training here transfers to driving, sport, work, or any other real-world task. The research on transfer between trained and untrained tasks is genuinely contested, and we say so where it comes up.
- Our practice suggestions are about getting better at a browser game. They are not a training programme and they are not designed by anyone qualified to design one.
Extended screen use, repetitive input and sustained concentration can cause eye strain, hand and wrist discomfort, headaches and fatigue. If you experience discomfort while playing, stop. If any symptom persists, see a qualified medical professional. If you have a condition affected by flashing or moving imagery, please take appropriate precautions — our games avoid rapid flashing, but we cannot anticipate every individual sensitivity.
Accuracy of information
We work hard on accuracy — the fact-checking policy describes exactly how — and we still expect to be wrong sometimes.
Specific areas where caution is warranted:
Claims about our own games are the most reliable content here, because they are read directly from source code. They can still fall out of date if a game is retuned and a page is missed.
Claims about the genre in general are informed observations, not measurements. Another developer's timing window will not match ours.
Historical claims come from a field where much of the record was reconstructed from memory decades later. We prefer primary sources and flag contested points, and some of what is widely believed about early games history will likely turn out to be wrong.
If you find an error, please report it through the contact page. Corrections are welcome and are handled openly.
Opinion and judgement
A good deal of the design writing here is opinion. When we say a free charge mechanic is a delay pretending to be a decision, that is a view, not a finding. We try to make the distinction obvious through the language used and by keeping editorial notes visually separate from body text, but it is worth knowing that the distinction exists.
The games themselves
The games are provided free and as-is, with no warranty. They may contain bugs, may behave differently across browsers and devices, and may be changed or withdrawn at any time.
Six of the ten games listed in our catalogue are not playable. Their pages say so clearly and describe an intended design. Nothing on those pages should be read as a commitment to build the game or a promise of a date.
Scores are stored in your own browser and cannot be recovered by us. Clearing your browsing data removes them permanently.
External links and third parties
We link to external sites where a source or further reading is genuinely useful. We have no control over those sites, do not endorse them by linking, and are not responsible for their content, accuracy or privacy practices. Links are checked at publication and at scheduled reviews; the web moves regardless.
Where an article mentions a third-party product, console, company or game title, it is for identification and commentary. Those trademarks belong to their owners. No affiliation, sponsorship or endorsement is claimed or implied, in either direction.
Advertising
No advertising currently runs on this site. If it is introduced, advertisements are supplied by third parties and their content is not ours. An advertisement appearing here is not an endorsement of the product or the advertiser, and we are not responsible for anything on the sites they lead to.
We do not accept payment to cover a product, and we do not run affiliate links. If that changes it will be disclosed on the page where it applies.
Our conflict of interest
Worth naming plainly: every game discussed on this site was made by us. When an article says a mechanic works well, and that mechanic is in one of our games, we are not a neutral party.
Our mitigations are to say so wherever it arises, to avoid ranking our games against anyone else's, and to be as willing to describe what we got wrong as what we got right. Several game pages do exactly that. But a reader should weigh our judgements about our own work accordingly, and we would rather you knew.
